SimUText Installers for Summer 2024

System Requirements for the SimUText Application

The links below provide access to a version of SimUText that is suitable for use on public/shared computers. (It is the same version that is available to students for download on their own computers.) Installation in a lab environment is permitted by the terms of service for the SimUText application.

The installation is good only for the Summer 2024 semester.

Important! SimBio may issue updates to the client application (defect corrections, for example) within an academic year that will then require these versions to be upgraded or reinstalled. By default, SimUText will automatically prompt the user to download and install an upgrade package.

To test the connectivity of a working login to the SimUText server, use checkinstall@simbio.com / password='guestPW'

Additional notes:
If installing or updating SimUText on lab computers is difficult or not possible, you might consider using the USB version, or require students to install the USB version on their own USB drives.

Lab computer user accounts must have write privileges to the current user's home directory in order to save the chapter file packages. If students have a persistent personal networked account, they should only have to download a new chapter once. If you are using a system like Deep Freeze or a similar management tool to roll back machine states to a pristine condition between user sessions, then every time the student opens a chapter, they will have to download it. This is not an obstacle to use; it simply adds a minute or two to the start of each student's work session.
