Exporting an Assignment's Scores

Exporting Scores

After students have submitted answers to an assignment, you can export their scores from within the Instructor Portal. Scores for individual assignments will download as a comma separated values (CSV) file which can then be opened in a spreadsheet program.

You can download a scores spreadsheet as follows:

  • log into your Instructor Portal
  • click on the Performance tab on the left side of the screen
  • select the assignment for which you would like to export scores
  • click the Download Scores button for that assignment
  • choose which version you would like to export

There are currently 3 types of CSV exports available.

Detailed Scores (CSV)

By selecting this download, you will receive a CSV file for the assignment selected with students' scores by question. The name of the file will be the name of the assignment you selected.

The first several rows include information about the date and time of the download, the course, the instructor, the TAs, and the assignment.

By column, you will see the section each student is assigned to (if you do not have sections setup for your SimUText, you will see "*master*") before the last and first name of the student, and their email address. Next, you see their Total Score, Graded Correct Score, and Feedback Completion Score. Then the following columns will be the number of points the students received per question. Graded question scores will appear under Question Type "G", and Feedback question completion will appear under Question Type "F".

LMS Data Export

In addition to the Detailed Scores CSV, you can download the final scores of each assignment in order to upload into your school's LMS. Currently, SimBio provides the formats for uploads to both Moodle and Canvas. When selecting either of these options, the file will download in CSV format, and will include the assignment name and the target LMS in the filename.

The file itself contains information about the student's section, last name, first name, email address, ID, and score for the assignment.

Raw Data

This option creates a CSV file with the student answer values for each question. This does not include scores or whether a question was answered correctly.
